What does it mean to be an advocate? I didn’t get the answer in almost any type of textbook. Not the anatomy textbook that lay over the foot of my bed, full of Post-Its and diagrams that are half-drawn. Nor the chemistry textbook that sat along with it, covered in streaks of blue highlighter. Not really Principles of Biology, overflowing with illegible notes and worksheets that are loose had the answer. Yet, in a few years, I will be promising to do exactly that: end up being the advocate that is ultimate my patients.
My look for the clear answer began quite unintentionally.
